Talk to any musician and they’ll tell you that their life is a constant grind. Between making music, creating entertaining music videos, building and growing a fanbase, and the constant promoting of their music to the world. And they wouldn’t change a thing about it.

Atlanta-based rapper CEO Chino Marley has been on his grind for all of this year, and then some. He’s dropped several music videos in 2020 — including three over the summer — and has no signs of slowing down. He’s built his brand into the “King of Drip” — we talk about what that means, his latest videos, and what the live music scene will look like in a post-pandemic world. Chino is also a big tech geek, so we look at some of his favorite tools.

Highlights of our conversation include:

  • The song that made Chino want to start rapping. (1:50)

  • The process behind writing the song “High,” and how joking around in the studio turned into a hit. Plus, Chino shares the behind the scenes of making the music video, which is one of the most eye-popping ones you’ll ever see. (2:50)

  • Why Chino’s new music video for his song “Active” is filled with energy, and the importance of wardrobe choices when being on camera. (6:54)

  • What it means for Chino to be the King of Drip. (8:28)

  • Why the Internet has been the most powerful tool for Chino as he promotes himself and his music. (9:58)

  • How Instagram has helped Chino build his brand and why he’s embraced using Instagram Reels. (13:13)

  • An inside look at the making of Chino’s Dripology: Vol. 1 album. (15:45)

  • Why your approach to making music should be like your approach to relationships. (20:04)

  • The worst gig Chino has ever played — and the lesson it taught him that he’s kept throughout his career. (21:21)

  • How the live music industry will change in the wake of the coronavirus. (24:04)

  • New technology coming up that Chino is excited to get his hands on. (29:00)

  • Chino’s top three musical inspirations. (33:03)

What’s next for Chino Marley?

Chino has been recognized for his willingness to tackle hard topics. His latest mixtape, Dripology, Vol. 1, tells the story of his life from growing up on the streets to becoming a well-rounded artist and entrepreneur. Chino was named Male Hip Hop Artist of the Year by this year’s SEI Awards. He’s continuing to work on new music and engaging with fans — check him out on YouTube, Spotify, and Instagram.
