Getting ready for work has looked a little bit different this year. And while it was fun to roll out of bed in pajamas and slippers with hair sticking up in all directions for a while, that ain’t cutting it anymore. Budget travel and lifestyle expert Lindsay Myers, creator of Get Lost with Lindsay, is all about those traveling on a budget tips. But in the age of COVID, she’s turned her attention to virtual fashion.

It may be easy to phone it in right now, but you can dress for success while still keeping it simple. Lindsay walks us through her top tips and tricks to make you truly shine for your next virtual meeting, even if the thought of another Zoom call drives you halfway up the wall.

On top of traveling on a budget and virtual fashion tips, Lindsay and I also get off on many a tangent. We’re diving into things like the bizarre made-up holidays out there, our favorite fast-food French fries, and wax nostalgic on the Oregon Trail computer game.

Highlights of our conversation include:

  • Why NextDoor is a terrific, entertaining platform that every one of us should be using. (4:15)

  • The business changes and creative choices Lindsay has made and how she pivoted her business focus during the pandemic to more virtual expertise, keeping her travel brand in great shape. (6:23)

  • Some of the top quarantine activities to stay busy during a time of social distancing, and her post on how to elevate date night going viral. (11:05)

  • Why recreating your first date is a perfect date night idea, whether your first date was seeing Titanic or going to a baseball game at Fenway Park. (15:38)

  • Lindsay and I talk about the majesty of the Chocolate Wonderfall at Golden Corral and reflect on trips to the buffet and other restaurants in our younger days. Plus, the best French fries from national fast food chains (20:22)

  • Why it’s important to show up, detailed by Lindsay’s pivot into a virtual fashion expert has led to new opportunities and creative outside the box thinking as she shares Zoom tips and other virtual strategies. (25:30)

  • Why remote working can be so tricky and how to effectively work from home, including treating it like a job, taking a lunch, and embracing walking meetings. (32:20)

  • A travel rapid fire session that ends up not being very rapid at all but still full of great insights, including Lindsay’s favorite place to travel, a place she wants to go but hasn’t been yet, her worst travel experience abroad, top travel budgeting tips, (36:05)

  • We reminisce about Oregon Trail and the much less popular computer game Oregon Trail II. (50:24)

  • Lindsay shares her three tips for successful virtual fashion on Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams, or whatever video chat you use. (55:10)
