#66: The Book Doctor Is In with Stacey Aaronson

GPCT Podcast Stacey Aaronson Header.jpg

Stacey Aaronson is an established writer, ghostwriter, editor, book designer, and publishing partner who has been involved in the full or partial production of over 200 books. So…you know, just staying a lil’ busy here and there.

She works with authors across genres through her business, The Book Doctor Is In, and as a layout artist for She Writes Press.

Now, Stacey is tackling her own book. Raising, and Losing, My Remarkable Teenage Mother is her first solo publication, but my goodness, is it enjoyable. Stacey’s enthusiasm leaps off the page, and it’s exploding in this episode, too. There are so many goodies in here—let’s hop to it!

Highlights of our conversation include:

  • A look at all the MANY things Stacey Aaronson does, and why she loves helping writers shape their manuscripts, design their books, and get them out into the world. (4:06)

  • The most eclectic book project Stacey has worked on. (8:12)

  • Stacey and I try to figure out if there’s a movie that summarizes the American high school experience. (10:12)

  • We hop inside the pages of Stacey’s upcoming book, Raising, and Losing, My Remarkable Teenage Mother (pre-order it here!) (12:00)

  • The inside scoop of how to write a book in just nine months—plus the benefit of having an accountability partner encouraging you along! (15:11)

  • The best moments from Gilmore Girls, which is quite similar to Stacey’s real-life relationship with her mom. (17:55)

  • Curious about how to write a book yourself? We’re walking you through it. Plus, the most surprising part of writing a book. (21:23)

  • How to get over the dread that sometimes comes with book marketing strategies. (28:10)

  • Stacey and I talk about some of our grammar pet peeves. Don’t be one of these people! (31:02)

  • Stacey and her mom had a “role reversal” relationship. Does Stacey resent that? (36:51)

  • The top three reasons you (yes, YOU) are more amazing than you realize. (42:04)
